Who would have thought, at the start of the year, that an invisible virus would cause physical, social, and economic mayhem globally?
For many people, the first reaction, when confronted with uncertainty is to self-preserve. Retreating into a safe space and protecting yourself and your family is an instinctive response. Many of us are grappling with new changes and adjustments to be made to our daily lives. How we connect with family and loved ones, how we shop for our daily commodities, how we worship etc. are all bound to change in the foreseeable future.
One thing that has become apparent, Autus clients that have sound financial plans in place, review these regularly with their advisor and who are managing their financial affairs diligently are better placed to meet this new and uncertain future. The Autus wealth advisory team is already considering how the COVID-19 pandemic will impact financial planning and advice in future. Clients are already planning their spending with more circumspection, buying the “need to have” and avoiding the “nice to have.” We believe that saving more for the proverbial “rainy day” and keeping debt manageable will receive more considerable attention.
Research had shown that individuals that make use of wealth advisors are likely to be financially better off than those who try to do planning on their own. Autus Wealth Advisors are continuing to do annual client reviews and are communicating with clients via cell phone, email, WhatsApp, and Skype where possible. We miss the face-to-face meetings, but given the current constrained environment, do not expect this form of interaction to resume any time soon. Good internal process has nevertheless ensured that all Autus administrative functions are performed seamlessly by staff who are working remotely.
